He served as an officer in the Revolutionary War. He first served as a lieutenant of Capt John Black's Company in Col. Jonathan Brewer's Massachusetts Regiment until he was discharged on Nov. 1, 1775 at his request. Durig this time he fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill during the Seige of Boston. On Jan.1, 1777 he rejoined as a Captain in the 5th Massachusetts Regiment.
