Salt Springs - Ronald D. Darby, 71, of Salt Springs, FL passed away at the Gainesville VA Medical Center on October 15th, 2013.
Ron was born in Elyria, Ohio and graduated from Elyria High School in 1960. His passion for basketball earned him many trophies from the YMCA during that time. After joining the Navy he served on the Nuclear Power Submarine U.S.S. Trout during the Cuban Missile Crisis until his honorable medical discharge a few years later. He continued to be a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 12.
He spent time living in Sheffield Lake and Medina, Ohio and worked for Fruhaufs, Munray Products, Kendall Corp, Cleveland Printing Ink, Snyder Trucking and Crete Trucking. His love for fishing and boating finally led him to retire in Florida with a place on Lake George mastering crosswords and Sudoku.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Elizabeth "Betty" (nee MacDonald) Darby. He is survived by his daughters Kellie Plas of Elyria, Michelle (Jason) Grimes of North Royalton; a son Shannon (Missy) Coen of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren; and his sister Susan (David) Reed of Wellington.
A graveside service will be held 11 am Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk, Ohio.
