Cyrus Eden Bennett, 78, of Route 17 died unexpectedly Tuesday at Kennebec Valley Medical Center, Augusta.
He was born at Hope, a son of Loren Wirt and Ivie Livona Evans Bennett, and attended schools at Hope and Appleton.
Mr. Bennett was a finish carpenter and also did mechanical work.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, racing, camping, riding, gardening and four-wheeling. He had been proud of the fact that he always had peas in his garden before July 4 each season.
He whittled a lot of horse models for children and grandchildren.
A son, Dale R. Bennett, died in 1990, and a daughter, Michelle J. Dubord Hanson, died Nov. 6.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Evelyn Bosworth Bennett; three sons, Wendell of Boothbay Harbor and Michael Bennett of South Bristol, and David Winslow of Warren; three daughters, Pauline Bennett of Freeport, Sharon Park of Clinton and Christine Rolfe of Farmingdale; three sisters, Gertrude Fogg and Hazel Crockett, both of Camden, and Arlene Otis of Searsport; 22 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hopkins Cemetery, Route 215, South Jefferson. The Rev. Winifred Reynolds will officiate. Arrangements are by Gray & Pratt Funeral Home, Windsor.
