Her father was involved in early aviation so the family traveled extensively and as a youngster lived in China some years.
She graduated from high school in Roswell NM and attended UCLA. She married Dr. Thomas K Oliver in Alamogordo, NM on June 22, 1963.
After Tom's retirement from the Air Force, the family moved to Palos Verdes, CA, Bel Air, FL and when Tom was offered a position at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, they moved to Rapid City in 1967.
Nancy enjoyed knitting, solving crossword puzzles and supporting the Lady Hardrockers sports teams. She and Tom were noted for mailing newspaper sports articles of students to their parents, keeping them informed.
Nancy was one of the ladies that were instrumental in making the altar cushions for Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Nancy was known for being genuine, loyal, trusted and according to Tom, "fun to be with".
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Thomas Oliver, Rapid City, her sons; Ralph Royce and his wife, Nancy, Charles Royce and his wife, Brenda and Thomas Royce and his wife Linda, all of the Houston, Tx area, step sons; Dr. Don Oliver and his wife Jeannette, Rapid City, Rob Oliver and his wife Angela, Sioux Falls and Rex Oliver, Greenville, NC, 12 grand children, 12 great grandchildren and her brother, Robert Shumaker, Denver.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, November 18, 2013 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Fr. Chris Roussell officiating.
A time with the family will be offered one hour prior to service time at the church. Inurnment of her ashes will be in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church cremation Garden. A memorial is being established.
