JASPER-Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Weng Funeral Chapel for Walter F. Ball, 85, Jasper, who died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. Burial will be in Waters Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Waters Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Larry Ball and wife Patty, Jasper; two daughters, Peggy Gordon and husband Bob, Claremore, Okla. and Suzanne Berryhill, Diamond; a brother, Charles Ball, Jasper; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom Ball, John Ball and Richard Ball; four sisters, Martha Brown, Sylvia Sansom, Charlotte Ball and Barbara Winders; a granddaughter, Sheila Mayfield and a great-granddaughter, Leslie Dawn. Mr. Ball was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Jasper County, to Charles J. and Sylvia (Flourney) Ball. He was a retired farmer, former president of the Jasper Farmer's Fire Association and former board member of the North Fork Road District. He married Velta Berryhill on May 18, 1947, in Girard, Kan. She died Nov. 17, 2009.
