She was born on January 20, 1931 in Escanaba, Michigan, daughter of the late Bruce and Lillian (Johnson) McGuigan. She entered the Convent in 1947 and professed her vows in 1950. Sister Mary Eileen earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc. Sister Mary Eileen served as an elementary teacher at St. John, Antigo, Sacred Heart, Manitowoc, St. Anthony, Neopit, St. Mary, Kaukauna, St. Philip & St. Agnes, Green Bay, St. Mary, Bloomington, St. Peter, Middleton, St. Joseph, Alverno, Immaculate Conception, DePere, Wisconsin; San Roque, Santa Barbara, California; Immaculate Conception, Yuma, Topawa Elementary, Topawa, Arizona; St. John, Wellsburg, West Virginia; Holy Family, Lindsay & Guardian Angels, West Point, Nebraska; and Marie Reina, Lima Peru. She also served as librarian at St. Benedict, Cambridge, Ohio. After her retirement from active ministry, she performed various services at Holy Family Convent and St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc. Since 2004, she had been residing at St. Rita Health Center at Holy Family Convent. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three sisters: Catherine (Bob) Carignan, Margaret Carignan, Vi McGuigan; and two brothers: Tom (Marguerite) McGuigan and John (Fumiko) McGuigan. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Bruce (Bonnie) McGuigan.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Hilary Brzezinski, OFM with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m (TODAY), Tuesday, July 16, 2013. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Covent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
