Beverly Jean Hawkins, 81, of La Crosse died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse after a courageous battle with COPD.
Beverly was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Rosendale, Wis., to Laura and Daniel Rees. She met the love of her life, Cliff Hawkins, while he was working for his uncle in Rosendale and married him on June 7, 1947, and soon moved to La Crosse where they spent the rest of their lives.
Beverly was manager of Sears catalogue department and customer service specialist for 37 years. She enjoyed special times at their boathouse with friends, crocheting, cross-stitching, playing solitaire and trips to the casino. In recent years, Beverly particularly loved watching Dancing With the Stars.
Beverly is survived by her brother, Robert Rees; her daughter, Peggie (Michael) Fox of McKinney, Texas; her son, Jim (Kathy) Hawkins of La Crosse; grandchildren, Brian (Peggy) Graef, Michelle (Lou) VonSaders, Ricky Graef, Matthew (Sara) Hawkins, Danny (Wendy) Hawkins, Chad (Suzanne) Hawkins and Laura Hawkins; and great- grandchildren, Hunter, Allison, Taylor, Parker, Elise, Trey, Tia, Taylor, Ty, Tristan, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Isabelle and Mina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her sisters, Lorraine Kleidon and Velma Bird; and her brothers, Daniel and Carlon Rees.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at English Lutheran Church, 1509 King St., La Crosse. Pastor Mark Solyst will officiate with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. S., La Crosse. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday morning at the church.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to special friends, Karen Ferguson and Roxanne Fox; the incredible hospice staff and doctors Klemond and Brasic of Gundersen Lutheran; and the staff of Hillview Health Care Center. We don't know what we would have done without you.
