John R. Loomis, 79, of Caledonia



John R. Loomis, 79, of Caledonia died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.

He was born in La Crosse on Oct. 17, 1930, to John and Edwardina (Heroux) Loomis. He married Bonnie Bautsch on Feb. 8, 1956. John had proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

For many years John and his family enjoyed trips to Yellowstone National Park and of course, "Cooke City."

The focus of John's life was spending whatever time he could with his family, and as the years passed, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren became a treasured part of his life.

In addition to his wife, Bonnie, he is survived by his five daughters, Teresa (John Rabuck) Loomis of Hokah, Kay (Doug) Twite of Houston, Barbara (Tim Kappauf) Twite of Hokah, Nancy (Greg Schultz) Loomis of Caledonia, and Sarah (Tony) Wiste of Sheldon, Minn.; his three sons, Russell (Sara) Loomis of Caledonia, Dale Loomis of Chatfield, and Tim Loomis of Caledonia; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Muriel) Loomis of Caledonia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Michael; one granddaughter Anna; four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation and celebration of John's life was Dec. 22 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
