Freda M. Agostine, 80, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, in Marcus, Iowa. Miss Agostine had been a resident at the Marcus Nursing Home since March 2001.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul-Louis Arts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Miss Agostine was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Ravenna, Italy, the daughter of Urbano and Imelde L. (Righini) Agostine. She came to the United States and Sioux City as a child. She graduated from East High School in 1939. She graduated from Morningside College in 1946. She received her master of education degree from the University of Iowa in 1953, and did post graduate studies at the University of South Dakota and University of Colorado.

She was a school teacher for more than 45 years. She taught in the Liberty Consolidated School in rural Hinton, Iowa, from 1941 to 1943, Onawa, Iowa, schools from 1943 to 1945, and in the Sioux City School System from 1945 until retiring in 1986. She also worked with her brother, Tom, at Agostine's Clocks.

She was a member of Retired Teachers Association and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was a former member of Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed reading, sewing, baking and cooking. She also enjoyed her many nieces and nephews. She was very generous in her support of many organizations and charitable groups.

Survivors include two brothers, Donald and his wife, Linda of Marcus, Iowa, and James and his friend, Trudy Gries of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Lorelle Agostine of Sequim, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Agostine of Sequim, and Tom Agostine of Sioux City.

Pallbearers will be Bob Flanigan, John McGrath, Gary Bortscheller, Bill Westhoff, Corey Meister and Dennis Meister.

A memorial has been established in her name.
