Marrion H. "Arkie" Newman, age 83, a longtime resident of Irvington passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013 at a local hospital. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after more than 20 years of service. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service with more than 20 years of service. He was a member of the Guy T. Smith Masonic Lodge #883 F.& A.M. and also a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Irvington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Mary Parks Newman, first wife, Dollie T. Newman, brother Calvin Newman, stepdaughter Diana Whitaker, and stepson, David Posey. He is survived by his second wife, Letha Frances Newman, 3 daughters, Mary Mareno (Barry), Dollie Dee Newman, Judy Salzmann (Gene), son in law, Tim Whitaker, sisters, Elvie Tipping, Aline Clark, grandchildren, Christopher A. Mareno, Sr., Ryan Cranmore, Jeremy Cranmore, Alicia Whitaker, Stephanie Roberts, Lauren Shoemaker (Andrew), great grandchildren, Christopher A. Mareno, Jr., Amber Goodwin, Brooklyn Cranmore, Benjamin Shoemaker, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 12 noon with visitation from 10 am until service time. Interment with full Military Honors and Masonic Rites by Guy T. Smith Masonic Lodge will follow in Serenity Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mr. Newman's name to First Baptist Church of Irvington, 9074 Irvington-Bayou La Batre Hwy. Irvington, AL 36544.
