Frank Shepherd Spruill, widely known lawyer and active in Episcopal, church circles, died quietly at his home tonight following an illness which had made him an invalid for several months. He was 75 years of age. A member of the American, North Carolina and local bar associations, Mr. Spruill had been an assistant United States District Attorney for the Eastern District during President Cleveland's administration, and had served as a member of the State legislature from Franklin County. Actively interested on church work, Mr. Spruill, gained fame once as a Sunday School teacher, was serving as a member of the vestry of Episcopal church at the time of his death. He was also a trustee of Park View Hospital. At the time of his death he and his his son, who was his partner in law, were attorneys for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad for six counties. He was also attorney for the Railway Express Agency, Inc., North Carolina attorney for Virginia Electric and Power Company, local attorney for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company, and law representative for many many other firms. Mr. Spruill receive a degree at the University of North Carolina and passed the State Bar examination before he was 21 years of age. At one time he was tendered an appointment to the North Carolina Supreme Court but refused because of his many activities. He married Miss Alice Capeland of Winston of Bertie County on October 6, 1886, and is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas W. Alexander of Charlotte and Mrs. William Branch Porter of Richmond and one son, Frank Shepherd Spruill, Jr., who continues the firm law practice here. Death came shorty after 7 o'clock. Plans for the funeral were still incomplete tonight, but the family requested no flowers be sent.
