Famed photographer. Born in Transylvania, he was orphaned at age 15. Living in Paris at age 20 he began studying art, but was seduced into photography and began what would his life's work. Employed by several European newspapers, as well as the Associated Press, he was invited to come to New York in 1938 by Esquire magazine where he began working as a fashion photographer. de Dienes grew tired of New York and in 1944 headed west to California where he began photographing his two favorite subjects female nudes and landscapes. In November, 1945 after contacting the Blue Book Modeling Agency he was able to meet his muse in the form of a young war bride named Norma Jeane Dougherty who would be his favorite and eventually most famous subject, under her new name, Marilyn Monroe. A long career photographing Hollywood's biggest names, was eclipsed by the association with Marilyn. Late in his life de Dienes published several book of his photos of Monroe along with his recollections of their alleged romance. At his instructions he was laid to rest steps away from Marilyn in the locked Room of Prayer.
