Survivors include his daughters, Cleva Davis, Lois S. Brown (Cliffton), and Alsebre Davis (Al); sons, James A. Tyree Jr. (Sandra) and Douglas E. Tyree (Theresa); sisters, Lula Lee Key, Eula V. Chambers, and Naomi Fulgham; brothers, Albert P. Tyree and J. D. Tyree; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nephews, nieces, former students and friends.
He was blessed to work in six public schools of Alabama: Camden Academy in Wilcox County, 5 years; Druid High School, Tuscaloosa, Ala., 3 years; Riverside High School, 8 years; Tuscaloosa County High School, 8 years; Botler Junior High School, 5 years; and Hillcrest Junior High School, 1 year; a total of 30 years. He taught Junior and Senior High Mathematics and photography, and retired at the age of 59. His pet word was "Devil CATCHER." After retirement many of his students and close friends called him "Devil Catcher."
