Lila Mae Lewis, formerly of Maxwell, IA., and the Hawarden/Alcester area died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, IA. The graveside memorial service for family and friends will be on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 3 pm at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden with Pastor Todd Bunge of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.
Lila was born October 12, 1931 in Big Springs, SD the fourth child of William Sharp and Lucinda Marie (Ball) Allen. She attended school in Hawarden and was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church. Life journeys took her to many areas in Iowa. Lila's career of owning/management of restaurants and lounges found her in a kitchen cooking up a storm or behind the bar serving the multitude of friendships she formed over the years. She had a world of stories and was delighted to share. Upon returning to Hawarden in early 2000 she was employed by Beehive Homes and the Eagles Club. She was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the F.O.E. 1865.
Lila is survived by three sons: Bob (Chris) Lewis of Orange Park, Florida, Mike (Linda) Lewis of Maxwell, Iowa, and Lance Lewis of Orange Park, Florida; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, a brother William (Bill) Allen (Jeanette Severson) of Alcester, SD., and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: one in infancy and Winferd (Windy) Allen of Hawarden, two sisters and a brother-in-law: Beverly Allen and Velma (Rick) and Hugh (Squirt) Jensen of Alcester, SD.
A celebration of Lila's life will follow the committal service at the Eagle's Club.
