BAR HARBOR — Raymond P. Morris, 98, died Nov. 13, 2013, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. He was born July 24, 1915, in Hall Quarry, the son of William and Mary (Hawkins) Morris.

Raymond attended local schools and graduated from Somesville High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Husson College and master's degree from the University of Maine. Raymond taught school in Stonington and was assistant principal and then principal of the high school. He was an active member of the community as a selectman, with school activities, as a golf instructor, and coach as well as on the class trips.

Raymond and his wife, Carrie (Wentworth) Morris, returned to Southwest Harbor when he retired. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary before Carrie died in October of 2010. Raymond was also a member of the Southwest Harbor-Tremont Masonic Lodge No. 77 A.F. & A.M.

Raymond is survived by his nephew, John Gillis and wife, Patricia, and their children, Karin, John Jr. and David; a niece, Mary Walker and husband, John, and their children, Melissa and Timothy.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mt. Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor. Contributions in Raymond's memory may be made to the Mary Dow Center for Cancer Care, MCMH, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements by Acadia Burial and Cremation Direct, 248 State St., Ellsworth.
