PEORIA, IL - Jonathan Chase "Jay" Franklin, 25, of St. Charles, Mo., formerly of Peoria, is presumed dead after he went missing during a rafting trip on the Meramac River on Friday, May 31, 2013.

Jonathan was born on Oct. 12, 1987, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Ill., to his loving parents, Jeffrey Eric Franklin and Carol Vivian (Graham) Franklin. They survive, along with his loving brother, Christopher Eric Franklin.

He is the loving grandson of surviving grandparents, Mr. John "Jack" H. Franklin and Gloria G. Franklin and Mrs. Roberta Graham Orwig and Sheldon Orwig. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jonathan attended Proctor Day Care from the time he was 6 weeks old until grade school. He attended Northmoor Grade School, Rolling Acres Middle School and was a 2006 graduate of Richwoods High School. He attended Southern Illinois University, where he earned his bachelor of mechanical engineering. He was excited to obtain his "dream" job at Boeing. He was an engineer working with the missiles. He was also attending Washington University for his master's degree.

Jonathan was an active person. He played JFL football and was a linebacker on the Richwoods High School football team. After moving to St. Louis, Mo., where he resided, he tried kickball, touch football and volleyball. He joined the St. Louis Rowing Club and had just made the "Master's." Jon was an avid runner and ran in several running events. Jonathan loved life and lived it every day.
