Veteran Civil War
George E. Barlow enlisted for 3 years in the Army as a private in Company E, 30th Illinois U.S. Infantry Regiment on August 20, 1861 during the American Civil War. He was from New Hebron, Crawford County, Illinois, single, age 22, a Doctor, 5'-10" tall with Black hair, Hazel eyes and a dark complexion. He mustered in on August 25, 1861 at Camp Butler, Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. George reenlisted for 3 more years as a veteran on January 1, 1964 at Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi and mustered in on January 24, 1964 in the same place. He was discharged from service at Louisville, Kentucky and mustered out on July 17, 1865 at the end of the war. He served in the same military unit with his brother, Charles A. Barlow.
