"William Pettlon: A Pioneer Citizen Died Saturday, September 4

William Pettlon an old and highly esteemed resident passed away at the home of his son, Clarence Pettlon, near Delhi on Saturday, September 4, 1926. William Pettlon was born in New York, January 5, 1848. He came to Delhi, Delaware County, Iowa, with his parents, Jacob and Catherine Pettlon, in 1856. He was one of nine children. The family settled on the old Pettlon homestead. At first they built a log house and lived in that until 1862 when they built a stone house, which is still standing and is on the same land purchased in 1856. William Pettlon was married to Miss Belle W. Smith of Delaware County, December 22, 1880. To this union was born two sons, Clarence Pettlon and Glenn Pettlon. The latter now lives on the old home place. Mr. Pettlon has been living with his son, Gleen, until the past three years which have been spent with his son, Clarence. He is survived by six grandsons and two granddaughters, also three sisters, Mrs. Sophia O'Brien of Chicago, Mrs. Mary Johnston of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and Mrs. Carrie Millard of O'Neil City, Neb. Two brothers, Fred Pettlon of Manchester and Charles Pettlon of Aurelia, Iowa. His twin brother, Jacob Pettlon passed away three years ago in Manchester. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. G. L. Shoemaker.
