William Larry Edwards, 73, of Parkersburg, passed away Nov. 12, 2013, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio, as a result of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).
Larry was born in Charleston, W.Va., on Oct. 4, 1940, to the late Louise Johnson Edwards and William Adrian Edwards.
Larry was a teacher and administrator for 39 years and an athletic coach for 48 years. The majority of those years were spent as the boys' basketball coach at Parkersburg South High School from 1976-1994, and the assistant girls' basketball coach from 1995-2013.
Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Sellers Edwards; a son, William Scott Edwards of Kennewick, Washington; a daughter, Elizabeth Edwards of Sacramento, Calif.; three grandchildren, Cameron Scott Edwards, William Garrett Edwards and Robert James of Kennewick, Wash.; and his brother, Donald Edwards of Elk View, W.Va.
Larry lived his life as a man of faith, with the services being held at Fairlawn Baptist Church at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 14. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Private graveside services will be held Friday, 10 a.m. for family.
Memorial donations can be made to the Parkersburg South Girls' Basketball Program.
Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, is assisting the family with arrangements.
