Mrs. John Ethel Stovall was born December 23, 1920 in Homer, Louisiana, daughter of John and Effie Ivory. She was the oldest of six children; five boys and one girl. She accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized.

She later met and married Curtis Stovall Sr., who preceded her in death, and to this union four children were born. She received her education in Early Childhood Development and graduated from Merritt College. She was a faithful member of Havenscourt Community Church for many years and in her later years rejoined Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

She believed in putting God first. Her life mission was helping others. She spent endless hours visiting nursing homes and taking care of the sick and shut in. She tirelessly served at her church and in the community. She also went on several mission trips to Africa. Egypt, Europe and Israel to name a few.

She had a passion for working with children. After working several years as a childcare assistant she started her own family daycare business, where she touched the lives of many children and their families for over 20 years.

John Ethel departed this life on Monday, August 12, 2013. She was preceded in death by brothers Printist Ivory, Daniel Ivory and John Moore. She leaves to cherish her memories two brothers, Verge Ivory (Anna) and Freddie Moore, four children Sylvia Smith (Wayne), Billie Garth, Curtis Stovall Jr. (Francine), and Norman Stovall. She leaves eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. We will truly miss you.
