Marie Louise Lyon Ellis was one of the children born to Sylvanus Lyon and his second wife Adele Clifford Peshine. Marie was employed as a school teacher in New Jersey.

Marie was united in marriage in 1906 in New Jersey to Col. Wilmot Edward Ellis. Marie and Wilmot did not have any children during their 32 year marriage.

Her husband Wilmot passed away in 1938 of acute nephritis according to his death record, leaving Marie a widow. Marie outlived her husband by 12 years, passing away at the age of 81 of coronary thrombosis as a result of coronary embolus according to her death record.
