Asenath Burgess was married first in 1820 to Capt. Theophilus Burgess, who was lost at sea on a voyage to Russia in 1832. She married 2nd to Obed Brooks Esq in 1839. She was persecuted by Obed's strong willed daughter. She and her son Horace were driven out of her house at Obed's death. She is buried not with the Brooks family, the most imposing monument in the cemetery, but beside her first husband. She is listed there as Asenath, wife of Obed Brooks and formerly wife of Theophilus Burgess.
