James Edward Canter, age 84, of Gallatin went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 27, 2012. Funeral Service will be held Sunday, April 29th at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Gallatin, with Dr. Larry Yarborough officiating. Entombment will be at Sumner Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Sam Massey, Bill Edwards, Bud Willmore, Dickie Copeland, Ted Howes, Wert Campbell, Arch Moore, J. B. Gregory and Jones Hamlett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church, Gallatin. Visitation will be Saturday, April 28th from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Family Heritage Funeral Home. Mr. Canter was born March 11, 1928 in Smith County, TN son of the late Willie Hazel Canter and Rachel Elizabeth Dickens Canter. He is survived by wife, Jenny Langiotti Canter of Gallatin; sons, James Allen Canter (Sandra) of Tallahassee, FL and Steven Douglas Canter (Betsy A.) of Henderson, NV; daughter, Patricia Ann Canter House (Michael Earl) of Gallatin; brothers, Webb Allen Canter (June) and Raymond Douglas (Louise) of Gallatin; seven grandchildren, Giles Canter (Stephanie), Amy Canter Bennett (Jay), Ryan Canter, Lauren Ashley Canter, Emiley House Roebuck (Andy), Matthew House and Allison Canter; and four great grandchildren, Kara Lee Canter, Kinsley Kate Canter, Parker Bennett and Hayes Bennett. Mr. Canter served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He was the owner of Canter Cabinet Shop and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was an active member and Deacon of First Baptist Church, Gallatin, and was named Deacon Emeritus in 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 205 East Main Street, Gallatin, TN 37066.
