Arvana Lometa (Lockey) Boyd was born July 30, 1922 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Martha (Paisley) Lockey. The family moved to Bassett where Arvana hitchhiked to school in Charles City and Nashua. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1940. Arvana was united in marriage to William Duncan and this union was blessed with two children, Karen and James. The couple later divorced. Arvana moved to Charles City in 1946 and began working at Oliver/White Farm Equipment. In 1953, Arvana married Clarence Boyd and the couple made their home in Charles City.
