Earl Benjamin Franklin was the third born son of William Benjamin Franklin and Betty Smith Franklin on June 7, 1907. His brothers and sisters who are older than he are Jasper Franklin, Barney Franklin, Draper Franklin Taylor and Jewel Franklin Berry. William and Betty had a set of twins who were born after Earl, Bertram and Bernice. At 3 months of age, Bertram died from meningitis. Bernice lived into her late 80's. When the twins were born, Betty passed away.

Two years later, on November 23, 1911, William Benjamin Franklin married Sarah Ellen Jensen who had been the nurse-maiden for the Franklin children for several years. They had three children who all lived long lives, Violet Franklin Hennington, Loyd Oplis Franklin, and Annie Mae Franklin Stevens. Another set of twins plus 2 other children were born to their union, but all died as newborn babies.

Earl married Sarah Berry. Sarah was a sister to George Berry who was married to Earl's sister, Jewel. Hence their children were double cousins. To complicate this even more, Earl's brother Barney was also married to one of the Berry girls, so his children were included in the double cousins.

Earl and Sarah were the parents of four daughters, Mildred Franklin Smithers, Joann Franklin Clark, Earlene Franklin McDaniel and Sue Franklin Small. Mildred lives in Carlsbad, New Mexico and Sue lives in Colorado.

In the early 1950's, Earl bought a farm in an area of Texas that is still considered one of the last "Frontiers" in the state, Dell City, Texas. He had a very successful farming operation and also was a well driller. He drilled many of the water wells in the valley that is one of the best farming areas in the state of Texas.

After several years in Dell City, Earl and Sarah moved to Hotchkiss, Colorado, where they retired. Earl delighted in taking his family and friends sight seeing when they would visit on vacations. He knew all the places to go that were of great beauty. After many years in Hotchkiss, they moved to Cedar Ridge, Colorado, which is at the foot of the Grand Mesa, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Earl liked to hunt and fish because there were so many nice places in the immediate area to enjoy these sports. He and Sarah eventually moved to Evergreen, Colorado. Once in Evergreen, they enjoyed traveling and enjoyed taking their camp trailer to many places.

While living in Evergreen, Earl later became ill with heart problems and passed away in November 1975. He was survived by his wife, Sarah, daughters Mildred, Joann and Sue. Earlene had passed away in 1974. At the time of this writing, only Mildred and Sue are still living. Joann passed away in 2007. He was also survived by his sisters, Draper, Jewel, Bernice, Violet and Ann and his brother Loyd. His brothers Jasper passed away in 1974,and. Barney in 1960.

Earl Franklin is an uncle of Monument Hunter.
