Indian Wars Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Broome County, New York, he served as a Private in Company F, 8th US Calvary. In actions with hostile Apaches at Santa Maria River, Arizona, June 29, 1869, Private Sale killed an Apache warrior, seized his pony, bow, arrows and other weapons. For personal bravery in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on March 3, 1870.
