Carl Joseph VELTMANN, age 87, of Justice Illinois died on October 22, 2013. He was born in Berwyn Illinois on January 14, 1928. He was the Son of Carl Fredrick VELTMANN [b. 5/21/1901 ~ d. 5/31/1971] and Magdalene Mary VELTMANN nee SOUKUP [b. 5/13/1906 ~ d. 8/18/1989] He was preceded in death by his Wife Elizabeth Marie VELTMANN nee PROTANO [b. 7/23/1932 ~ d. 1/7/1990] whom he was a Husband, Business Partner, Lover, and Best Friend to. During their life together they overcame many obstacles and achieved the American Dream. He was also preceded in death by his Grandson Michael David VELTMANN [b. 11/26/1977 ~ d. 11/1/2004], whom he helped obtain a Professional Pilot Teacher's License and a Bachelor of Science degree for.
He was the loving and providing Father of Christopher and Carroll (nee ROWE) VELTMANN, and caring Grandfather of Mathew James and Sydney (nee CONLEY) VELTMANN. The proud Great Grandfather to Aria June VELTMANN. He was a devoted brother to Ardis Ann VELTMANN (CODE)
At the age of 9 during the Great Depression; instead of coming home from school for lunch Carl would go to construction sites and carry back bucks of beer for the workers who were on their lunch break, for a nickel per bucket. At 17, Carl forged his birth certificate so he could fight for his country in WW II. He enlisted into the Marine Corp and fought in the Pacific Theater. At 23; after he was honorably discharged from the Marines, Carl got his under graduate degree in engineering from the University of Illinois (Chicago). He played semi-pro football for the Berwyn Merchants. At the age of 25 Carl drove a cab and worked as an assistant engineer for the Cook County Highway Department expanding the Eisenhower Express Way. At 29 Carl started working for himself as a general contractor. He held Real Estate Broker Licenses, in 6 states, General Contractor Licenses in 5 states, and Real Estate Appraiser Licenses in 3 states. His company H.F. Karl built over 600 structures, in 9 states, in 30 years. Carl was a Master Mason of the Berwyn Lodge, A Member on the Entertainment Committee of Medinah Shrine, Chicago, A Past President of the West Suburban Shrine Club IL., An Ambassador at Sahib Shrine, Sarasota FL., A Past Director of the Shiner's Cripple Children's Hospital. He was an Honorable Kentucky Colonel. He will be forever loved and remembered, and now is at rest with the Lord and his Wife Elizabeth.
