Sylvia M. Arens, age 99 of Hartington, Nebraska and formerly of Wynot, Nebraska, died on Tuesday, December, 23, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Hartington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Wynot with Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wynot. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 5:00 pm at the church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Photo and arrangements by Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be Barb Dickinson, Carol Esser, Dr. Dave Hochstein, Mike Hochstein, Anthony Burbach and Dr. Trisha Burbach. Honorary Pallbearers will be her great grandchildren.

Sylvia Mary Arens was born on March 28, 1915 at Bow Valley, Nebraska to Joseph J. and Mary Clara (Bonertz) Sudbeck. She grew up in the Constance area and then lived in the Bow Valley area until she married Otto F. Arens on October 27, 1937 at Wynot. They made their home in Wynot and Otto died on February 21, 1985 at the age of 72. Sylvia continued to live in Wynot until moving to the Golden Living Center in Hartington in 2010. She was a member of the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church, Altar Society and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed playing cards, tending to her flowers, watching and feeding the birds, visiting with her friends and listening to music which was always part of the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Sylvia is survived by 2 daughters, Arlyce Hochstein of Wynot; Cheryl Burbach of Vermillion, SD; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a sister, Theo Rohr of Hartington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Kathy Koch, 2 sons-in-law, Larry Hochstein and Ray Koch, a brother, Adrian Sudbeck, a sister, Alvina Uhing, a step sister, Dee Blair and 2 step brothers, Cyril and Melvin Thoene.
