Gordon F. " Gordy" Hales
BUCYRUS - Gordon F. "Gordy" Hales, age 80, of Bucyrus and formerly of Eaton Township, passed away Thursday April 2, 2009 in Bucyrus Community Hospital after a short illness. He was born November 11, 1928 and had lived in Columbia Station and North Eaton prior to moving to Bucyrus last year. Gordy was a member of the LaPorte United Methodist Church, a Real Estate broker and an insurance agent. He was the former manager of Red Barn restaurant in Elyria, served over 11 years on the Midview Board of Education and was a 1946 graduate of Eaton High School. Mr. Hales served as past president of the Grafton-Midview Kiwanis Club and was the past Lt. Governor of the 13th division of Kiwanis. He was a farmer and a former member of the Lorain County Soil and Water Conservation District and former member of the Lorain County Farm Bureau 2-B.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Christman of Bucyrus; his son, Terry Hales of North Ridgeville; and by his four grandchildren. Survivors also include his sister-in-laws, Dorothy Hales of Florida, Kathy Hales of Elyria, Brenda (Larry) Blessing of Ashland; his brother-in-law, Bob (Lib) Boyd of Marion; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; sons, Todd, Timothy and Teddy; and by step brothers, Paul Hales, Everett Hales; and by his parents, Barton [sic] and Daisy Hales.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St., Grafton, on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Twp. The family suggests that memorials be made to the donor's choice.
