Mary C. Finley Hill
Lexington –A memorial service for Mary C. Finley Hill, 85, of Lexington, will be held at 2:00 p.m. November 14, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with interment to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park, Corley Mill Rd., Lexington. The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m.at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hill was born March 11, 1928 in Ware Shoals, SC to Emmett (Bud) and Sallie Felicia (Emerson) Finley and died on November 10, 2013. She was the widow of John D. Hill, SGM US Army Retired. [SGM = Sergeant Major]
She served her country as an Army wife for 26 years, settled in Columbia where she was employed with the Columbia Police Department and Bank of America, retired in Leesville and spent her final years at Oakleaf Village in Lexington.
Mrs. Hill was a member of VFW Post 6470 Ladies Auxiliary through which she served Dorn VA Medical Center as a volunteer in the dialysis unit. She was a faithful member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Leesville.
Surviving are her children Mary Jane Phipps, Martha Ann Hanks (Patrick), Alice Faye Rice (Barry), Betty Jean Ragan, and John Darrell Hill; grandchildren, Bradley Phipps (Mandy), Meg Hanks Huggins (Alex), Weston Rice, Ashley Ragan, Lacy Phipps Lucas (Randy), Kelly Ragan and Aaron Smith (Brantley); great grandchildren, Preston Phipps, Finley Huggins and Mary Patrick Huggins; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in Pelzer, Piedmont and Columbia; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers Calvin Emmett Finley and James Edward Finley; and a sister Evelyn Inez "Nezzie" Finley Pitt Shull.
The family is grateful to the loving and compassionate staffs of Oakleaf Village, Tide Water and Palmetto Health Hospices and Palmetto Health Richland 6 West.
