Mrs. Rachel Prevette Arrington, 83, of Olin, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at her home.
Mrs. Arrington was born in Iredell County on November 27, 1929 and she was the daughter of the late Baxter Prevette and Lily Redding Prevette. She was a graduate of Union Grove High School and Kings College in Charlotte.
On December 22, 1949, Mrs. Arrington married Thomas "Tom" Arrington, who survives.
She was formerly employed in vehicle registration with the Statesville Auto Auction and retired after 20 years of service. Mrs. Arrington was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and she was a charter member of the Statesville Republican Women's Club and the Voter Registrar for the New Hope Township.
She was known as a "cracker jack basketball player" and was a member of two regional basketball championship teams in Union Grove in 1947 and 1948.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Arrington was preceded in death by a daughter, Robyn Arrington Bell and a son, Steven Thomas Arrington. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel P. Goforth and Stella P. Campbell along with two brothers, Benjamin Prevette and Rex Prevette.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Tom Arrington of the home, one granddaughter, Katie Marie Stanley and her fiancé Donald Garner of Indian Trail. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Sean and Reagan Stanley of Indian Trail along with a son-in-law, Steve Bell of Statesville and a daughter-in-law, Jane Arrington of Matthews, two sister-in-laws, Clara Welborn and Annie Arrington, both of Statesville and a close family friend, Mike Hernandez, of Statesville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Arrington will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Campbell officiating. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 until 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
