Edith was born on May 18, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio and was a 1947 graduate of the University of Toledo. She was employed by Cleveland Public Schools for 20 years as a home economics teacher. She volunteered at the Lakewood Christian Service Center for many years and was a very active and enthusiastic church member. Throughout her life, she devoted time to visiting those in nursing care, and she was charitable to anyone in need. She will be remembered for her cooking and sewing talents, which she shared so generously.
Edith will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her, including sons, John (Marla) Higgins, of Huron, Ohio and Neil (Georganne) Higgins, of Bourbonnais, Illinois; three grandchildren, Jane (Jeff) Marx, Kate Higgins (Mike Toman), and Robin Higgins; two great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Wallace) Underwood, of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister-in-law, Margaret (Mike) McCormack, of Medford, Oregon; and one niece and several nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1985; and parents, Robert and Amy (Almroth) Kohler.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 18001 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, Ohio 44107 on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 2 P.M. Rev. Keith Owen will officiate. Private interment will take place at Harris Elmore Union Cemetery in Elmore, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edith's name to St. Peter's Episcopal Church or to the Lakewood Christian Service Center, 1412 Marlowe Ave., Cleveland, OH 44107.
