Ray served in the Navy for four years during World War II and later served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Subsequently, he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant from the Utah Air National Guard in 1977. Ray also served on the Murray City Planning Committee. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was particularly well known as a tremendous Home Teacher. Many of those he taught enjoyed seeing him so much that they would call him to make their appointment.
Ray had a great sense of humor and a lot of "home spun" wisdom. Many people would drop by just to visit and get his advice. Ray was also noted for his honesty, integrity and straight forwardness. He was an example of these attributes to all who knew him.
Ray is survived by his wife, Virginia, son Jerry (Mary Jean) Bell, daughter Louise (Jim) Fowlks, sister Edith Maresco, daughter-in-law Linda Bell, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as others who claim him as their grandpa. He was preceded in death by his son Tom Bell and his daughter Wendy Ruth Bell. We know they are having a very happy reunion.
Memorial Services will be held on Tues., May 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jefferson Ward Chapel, 67 W. Clay Park Dr., Murray, Utah, (6280 S). Family and friends may visit from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 25, at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, Utah, and on Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Church.
