Victor Jensen, age 79 of Osakis died early Friday morning, March 7 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN.
Victor was born on June 15, 1928 in Defiance, Shelby County, Iowa to Chris and Grace (Cuppy) Jensen. He was a graduate of West Branch High School in West Branch, Iowa. Victor made his living as a dairy farmer, first in Iowa and then when he moved to the Osakis, MN area in 1951. He also did construction/carpentry work. In 1956, Vic took a year to work and sightsee Alaska. After his Alaskan adventure, he returned to Osakis and worked with Gail Sibell at a bait shop. Vic continued farming until his retirement in 1983, but even then continued farming by doing custom combine work for Melvin Booth each season and custodial work for Alexandria Bremer Bank.
Victor was a member of the United Methodist Church in Osakis. He also belonged to the Osakis Senior Center and helped deliver the Meals on Wheels to area seniors. He was a member of the NRA and loved to go hunting each fall for deer, elk or moose. Draft and riding horses were another interest of Vic's. He grew up with horses and enjoyed their strength and beauty. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed watching all sports on television, especially NCAA basketball. In his younger years he did a lot of bowling and also liked to work out in his garden.
Victor is survived by a sister, Evelyn Jensen of Alexandria and his brother, Merven (Judy) Jensen of Osakis; two nieces, Kim (Joe) Zabel and Christy (Tim) Geldert; 2 great nieces, Katie (Justin) Marquardt and Heather Zabel; one great nephew, Kevin Zabel and great, great nephew Matthew Diers. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Victor will be held on Wednesday, March 12 at 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Osakis with visitation beginning one hour before the service at the church. Rev. Mark Bateson is the officiating pastor. Musicians are organist, Janet Sampson and soloist, Anna Pastian. Interment is at the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria, MN. Honorary pallbearers are Harold Laven, Leon Curtis, John Booth, Al Halgrimson, Gail Sibell, John Norlinger and Randy Resley. Active pallbearers are Kevin Zabel, Mike Curtis, George Mead, Merle Harth, Gunnar Linder and Lowell Collins.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
