Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Wideman of St. Clair, MO; by his children, Robert Wideman and wife, Rhonda, of Union, MO, Terri Saling and husband, Pat, of St. Clair, and Brad Wideman of St. Clair; by his sister, Lorraine McMillen of Union; by nine grandchildren, Bobie Lynn Smith and husband, Charles, of Pittsburg, PA, Rebecca Kissinger and husband, Dewayne, of Union, Joshua Wideman and wife, Kristen, of Union, Christopher Wideman of Union, Andrew Saling of St. Clair, Kelsey Wideman of St. Clair, Wales Wideman of Pacific, MO, Garrett Kennedy of St. Clair and Tanner Wideman of St. Clair; by eleven great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, one nephew, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Beatrice Wideman.
Robert was a Christian and member of First Christian Church in Union, MO. He was proud to have served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army, entering March 7, 1952 and receiving his honorable discharge on February 25, 1954. He was also a proud member of American Legion Post #347 in St. Clair. Throughout most of his working career he owned and operated Artistic Cabinet Shop in St. Clair, MO making beautiful wood cabinetry. Robert had a variety of interests throughout his life, none more important to him than fishing and hunting. What meant most to him was time spent with his family. His children and grandchildren held a special place in his heart, as he did in theirs. The precious memories they created will forever be cherished by them all.
A devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin and treasured friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. David Beatty officiating. Interment was in Nortman Cemetery in New Haven, MO. Memorials may be made to the Ataxia Foundation.
