Elaine Zimmerman Stephens, 83, of Putnam Church Road, Carthage died Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Durham.

Mrs. Stephens was born October 6, 1930 in Rochester, NY the daughter of Lisle and Marion (Wood) Zimmerman. She was a homemaker, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinehurst and St. Julia's Catholic Parish of Siler City. Elaine had worked at the Pentagon while serving in the Navy from 1952 -1954. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Sherry Rose.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years: James Stephens of Carthage; three sons; two daughters; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a brother, Curtis Zimmerman of Canada.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 11, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. A mass will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Julia Catholic Parish, 210 Harold Hart Road, Siler City with Father Jim Fukes officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or a Veteran's Charity of choice.
