Services were held in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton, for Karl W. Lewis, formerly of Curtis Avenue, Bern Township, who died March 4 in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Spring Township, where he had resided since Nov. 3. Inurnment was also in Forest Hills. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy E. (Gnau) Lewis, who died Dec. 20, 1998. Born in Knauers, he was a son of the late Samuel and
Bessie (Furlow) Lewis. He was a graduate of Shillington High School. Until his retirement, he was last employed for 12 years as a bartender by the Berkshire Country Club, Bern Township. Previously, he was bartender and manager of the West Reading Hotel for 32 years. Lewis was an Army veteran of World War II and was featured in a Reading Eagle article on crew members of the U.S.S. New York. He was a member of Alleghenyville United Church of Christ, Brecknock Township.

Surviving are three sons: Robert K., Mohnton; Karl W. Jr., Colony Park; and Russell D., High Point, N.C. There are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Penn, was in charge of arrangements.
