The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Henry Knight (ASN: 546170), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, A.E.F., near Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918.

After his company had been relieved, Private Knight remained to guide the new organization through the intense artillery and machine-gun fire, and for three days carried food and water to the wounded, who could not be removed during the bombardment.
