Grace (Reed) Welch, 90, of Hingham, formerly a longtime resident of Whitman, and devoted wife of the late Dr. Edward K. Welch of Whitman, passed away Nov. 1, 2013. Grace was born April 25, 1923, in Winooski, Vt., to William and Lydia (Mossey) Reed. Grace met her beloved husband in New York City during World War II and married on May 27, 1945. They began their family in Winooski, Vt., while her husband attended medical school, and moved to Whitman where they continued to grow their family and established a medical practice. In retirement, Grace and Ed moved to Norton and enjoyed their winters in Naples, Fla., and summers in Megansett, playing golf and socializing with friends. Following the passing of her beloved husband Sept. 14, 2002, Grace moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham and continued to summer on Cape Cod and winter in Naples. Grace lived a long and wonderful life enjoying time with family and friends at their Megansett Beach and Naples, Fla., homes and playing golf at Royal Wood Golf Course in Naples, Fla., and Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton. Grace was the devoted mother of Suzanne Leu of Scituate, Kevin E. Welch DMD of Hanson, Dr. Kathleen Welch of Dedham, Edward K. Welch II Esq. of Naples, Fla., Mary Jane Welch MSPT of Rockland, Christopher R. Welch of Germantown, Md., and Geoffrey T. Welch of Whitman. Grace was the loving grandmother of thirteen grandchildren; and loving great-grandmother of twelve great-grandchildren. Grace is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends; and was predeceased by her sisters, Mildred Cartnick and Doris Murray, and her brothers, Austin and Bernard Reed. Her funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Albert the Great, 1140 Washington St., Weymouth, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12. Burial next to her beloved husband at St. James Cemetery in Whitman, immediately following the service. All other services are omitted by request of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Home for Little Wanderers, 271 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02115. Arrangements by the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Inc.
