She was born on Feb. 17, 1925, in Orrville, the daughter of Perry E. and Mary (Critchfield) Auble. She was united in marriage to Milton H. Combs on Feb. 9, 1946, in Detroit. He died Nov. 13, 1991.
Liz was a 1943 graduate of Orrville High School. After raising her family, she returned to nursing school at Akron University, where she graduated in 1976 as a registered nurse. Liz had worked in the emergency department at Akron City Hospital as a registered nurse from 1976, until her retirement in 2007.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Akron, where she was active in the church choir, altar committee, and the TLC committee. She was a member of Stan Hywet Hall Garden, Women's Auxiliary Board and dried flower committee at Stan Hywet. She was also a member of the Merriman Hill Garden Club, HOPE (hospice group), Silver Sneakers, Firestone School of Nursing Alumni Association and the Emergency Nurses Association.
Liz enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, quilting, needlepoint and antiquing.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Marty Rogol) Clarke of Jupiter, Fla, and sons, Craig Combs of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Keith Combs, of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Chad (Jenny Ross) Clarke, David, Kathryn, and Brian Landers; great-grandchildren, Reilly and Rhett Clarke; a sister, Mary Louise Reese of Cortland; a brother, Alan C. (Suzy) Auble of Orrville; and a sister-in-law, Rosie Auble of Ironton.
In addition to her parents and husband, Milton Combs, she was preceded in death by her second husband, David M. Ellis, a daughter, Christine Landers, and a brother, Kenneth H. Auble.
Memorial services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 380 Mineola Ave., Akron, on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Wendell officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Orrville.
