Everett "Jim" William Campbell, 78, of Harrisonburg, Va., passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, following a brief illness at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 14, 1935, in Rockingham County, and lived most of his life in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County area. He was the son of the late Lurty Dallas and Ruby Violet (Thomas) Campbell. In addition, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Edna Campbell, Geneva Campbell Lambert, and a grandson, Timothy Andrew Campbell.

Mr. Campbell attended Montevideo High School, where he excelled as captain of the football team and participated in the track program. After graduating high school, he served proudly in the Navy on the U.S.S. Shenandoah and at the Washington Naval Yard. He was employed by Harrisonburg Electric Commission as an electrical lineman for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1990. Mr. Campbell was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren in Harrisonburg. He was a dedicated family man and enjoyed gardening, lawn work, and spending time in his workshop.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Juanita Lambert Campbell; sons, William Edward Bresley, and wife Diane, of Fredericksburg, Timothy Lane Campbell, and wife Sandra, of Mount Jackson; daughters, Julie Dawn Campbell, of Dayton, and Yvonne Campbell Smith, and husband Lee, of Harrisonburg. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Will Bresley, Heather Comer, Angela Reid, Monica Crorken, Tiffany Rohrbaugh, Matthew and Michael Bresley, Greg Fix, Benjamin and Elizabeth Knight, Hannah and Lizzie Smith; and 6 great grandchildren.

Mr. Campbell also leaves behind brothers, Donnie, Lurty Jr., and A. Ray Campbell of Mount Crawford; sisters, Beatrice Heerman of Port Republic, and Doris Washington, of Grottoes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A family night is planned on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 from 7-8 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The funeral service will be held at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 with Pastor Eric Campbell officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
