Mattie was the daughter of George Lewis Ledsinger and Rebecca (Everett) Ledsinger. She married Horace Edgar Williams on March 1, 1896, in Carroll County, Tennessee.

Mattie and Horace were the parents of six children--Grace Ethel, Allie Joe, Annie Mae, Amy Jeanett, Horace Edgar, and Clarence Edwin Williams.
