She was born July 28, 1912 in Clyde, North Carolina to parents William and Ida Hill. When Edith was a child, the family moved west to Loomis, Washington. She attended primary school in Loomis, then lived with an aunt in Omak, graduating from high school there in 1930.
Edith worked in Wenatchee for a time. On July 1, 1932 she married James Harold 'Ole' Drew in Waterville. She and her husband lived in Oregon near Paisley during the Great Depression for a while, then moved to Tonasket in 1940. While raising her family in Tonasket, Edith worked various jobs including the drug store, grocery store, and apple industry. Her husband Ole preceded her in death in 1989.
Children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her love and she kept her home always open to them and their friends. She had been a member of the Tonasket Rebekah Lodge, and was a charter member and past president of the Tonasket Eagles Auxiliary.
She is survived by son Skip Drew of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, daughter Joelle Hawkins of Tonasket, 7 grandchildren - Bobbi Terrill of Tonasket, Jollie Evans of Tonasket, Jackie Maycumber of Olympia, Jay Hawkins of Tonasket, Kevin Drew of Snohomish, Kreg Drew of Lynnwood, and Gunnar Drew of Spokane, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14, 1996 at 11:00am at the Bergh Chapel in Oroville. Pastor Randy Middleton officiating. Memorials may be made to the Ole Drew Athletic Scholarship in Tonasket c/o US Bank. Bergh Funeral Service of Oroville in charge of arrangements.
