Leona Lee Alexander, 85, of 1945 Cragmont St., died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

She was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Trimble County, Ky., the daughter of Leo and Mary Chandler Andrews. She was a homemaker and had been a matron for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. She was a member of Moose Lodge 765 and Hebron Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Ruby Lee Ayler of Madison; three sons, Billy Joe Alexander of Evansville, and Ernest W. Alexander and Beckham Lynn Alexander, both of Madison; one brother, Whitey Andrews of Madison; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alonzo Beckham Alexander; three brothers, Barney Andrews, Herman Andrews and Lawrence Andrews; and a sister, Nettie Mae Callis.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lytle-Gans Funeral Home, with burial in Bedford IOOF Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society. Cards will be available at the funeral home.
