Mom was born August 17, 1907 in Mammoth, Utah , one of ten children born to Hans Johannes and Elizabeth Jane Freckleton Hassell. On June 17, 1939 Thelma and Albin M. (Mickey) Ross were married in Eureka, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mickey preceded her in death on February 23, 1975. Thelma was a graduate of BYU and enjoyed teaching elementary education in Mammoth and South Jordan, Utah. She was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many capacities, including Stake Primary President. A member of the DUP, Thelma was named Midvale Mother of the Year in 1966.
Survivors: sons and wife, Michael (Allene), Draper; Howard (Carol), St. George; Merrill (Randy), Midvale; Paul (Janell), Sandy; daughter and husband, Maurine Helm (Richard), Midvale; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildlren; sister, Farol Thackeray. Preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 11, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Midvale North LDS Stake Center, 97 West 7500 South. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Friday 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
