United States Army General. A West Point graduate of the class of 1943, Roberts entered military service in World War Two with the 101st Airborne Division and fought at both Normandy and the Battle of the Buldge as a battalion commander. After the war, he would eventually be made commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War. After Vietnam, he was appointed as the head of the United States Delegation for Mutual and Balanced Force Reduction in Vienna. In 1973, Roberts was chosen to take command of the United States 6th Army based at the Presidio of San Francisco, a post he would hold until retiring from the Army in 1975.
