Builder, 73, Dies After Auto Crash Near Rockville

Edward L. Stock, 73, Bethesda builder, civic and church leader, died last night in Suburban Hospital of injuries received Saturday in an automobile accident near Rockville, Montgomery County police reported.

Mr. Stock, a Washington and Montgomery County heating engineer and buildre, was hurt when his car collided with one driven by John R. Watkins, 17, of Rockville, near the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and Tilden Lane, police said.

A native of Bethesda, Mr. Stock was a graduate of Griswold College, Davenport, Iowa. He was active in Republican politics in his district, running several times for State Senator.

Mr. Stock was a founder of the Bank of Bethesda, a member of the Rotary Club of Bethesda, and of Christ Episcopal Church of Rockville. He was also vice president of the Bishop's Council in the Washington Diocese of the Episcopal Church. He lived at 6752 Fairfax Road, Bethesda.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mildred Kline Stock, and three sons, Charles S. Stock of Bettendorf, Iowa; Edward L. Stock, Jr., of Rockville; and J. Steven Stock of Princeton, N.J.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Bethlehem Chapel of the Washington Cathedral. The Right Rev. Angus Dun, Bishop of Washington, assisted by the Rev. Raymond P. Black of the Cathedral, will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.

Suddenly, on Sunday, February 2, 1947, at Suburban Hospital, Edward L. Stock, Sr., beloved husband of Mildred K. Stock of 6752 Fairfax Rd., Bethesda, Md., and father of Charles S., Edward L., Jr., and J. Stevens Stock.

Remains resting at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase funeral home of Wm. Reuben Pumphrey. Funeral services at the Bethlehem Chapel of the Washington Cathedral on Wednesday, February 5, at 11 a.m. Bishop Angus Dun and Rev. Raymond P. Black officiating. Interment Rock Creek Cemetery.
