ASHTABULA — Elizabeth "Betty" Estelle Fredericks, age 77, of Ashtabula, Ohio, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was surrounded in love and sent with prayers to her new home in heaven.

Betty was one of nine children born to Charles R. and Helen V. (Herring) Ashley in Cleveland, Ohio on May 23, 1936.

After a wonderful courtship and the blessings of their families, Betty and Edmund were married on July 2, 1955. They celebrated fifty-eight years of love and respect.

Betty and Edmund are members of Faith Lutheran Church of Ashtabula. Together they managed the food pantry for fourteen years. Betty's gentle nature and her concern for those less fortunate, led her to serve her community.

During her quiet moments, she enjoyed completing cross stitch projects and gifting her friends and family. These gifts are now treasures of the heart to those who received them. Any time she was asked, Betty enjoyed going with her friends to BINGO where she enjoyed the company more than winning.

Betty's greatest joy was the time spent with her family. A wonderful wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and friend; she will be remembered for her sense of humor, wonderful smile, and unfailing love of her family. Her faith in her fellow man and her devotion to her community will be a lasting legacy.

She is survived by her loving husband, Edmund Frederick of Ashtabula, her daughters, Tammy (Gene) Reckart of Southington, Ohio and Lisa (Scott) Hakala of Ashtabula; five loving grandchildren, Michael (Tracy) McDaniel, Tiffany McDaniel, Sara Hakala, Ashley Hakala, and Devin Reckart; four precious great-grandchildren, Taylor McDaniel, Kaila Paden, Kylee Lewis and Olivia Grow; her siblings, Shirley Andrews, Stuart Ashley, Robert Ashley, and her twin brother, William (Gaynel) Ashley; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Edmund Scott Fredericks; her brothers, Donald, Jerry and Jack Ashley; her sister, Virginia (Wink) Ashley; and her parents, Helen and Charles Ashley.

Memorial Services will be held 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Ave., Ashtabula, with Kathleen Shaffer, CFSP, officiating.
