Nelda passed away November 6, 2013. She was born October 28, 1924, and lived in Lubbock most of her life.

Nelda married R.C. "Bob" Johnson Jr. in Lubbock on November 9, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1997. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Landon Velasquez, and three siblings.

Nelda was a member of the Alathean Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church and a former member of the Lubbock Women's Club.

She is survived by daughters Jan Johnson and Kathy Hurley (Tim); grandsons Stephen (Misti) Griffith; Jeremy (Cheryl) Velasquez; and Justin Velasquez. Nelda's great-grandchildren include Brice, Evan, Dee, Ellison, and Stormi.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to caregivers Maria Montez, Lisa Ortega, Angie Hernandez, and Josie Gomez for the loving care and respect shown to their mom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Plains Food Bank, 4612 Locust Ave. 79404 or the Arthritis Foundation.
