Billy Joe Stratton, age 72, of 412 Spurgeon Lane, Bristol, Virginia, went to be with The Lord on Friday, May 20, 2005 at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Bill was born on April 9, 1933, in Scott County, Virginia, a son of the late Carl and Virgie Moore Stratton.

He was a life-long resident of the Bristol area, where he was retired from Overnite Trucking and a member of Bradley Street Baptist Church. Bill was a member of the South Holston Ruritan where, in 1997, he was bestowed their "Man of the Year" award.

He was active with the Jacobs Creek Job Corps where he served on the executive committee. Mr. Stratton was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in the Korean War with the 4th Division Paratroopers with which he made several jumps.

Bill was a simple man who taught others to appreciate little things in life. He dearly loved his many friends and was sensitive to others' needs. Bill never met a stranger, loved to talk, joke, and dance. He will be greatly missed. I thank God, who brought Bill and me together, for a few precious years. – Your Loving Wife, Grace
